Wednesday Happenings
Twice a year, FUMC enjoys a special time of church-wide fellowship and discipleship. For eight weeks in the spring and eight weeks in the fall, church members and guests gather at 5:15 in the Fellowship Hall for a meal, then go to separate classes offered by various church members. The church charges a minimal fee to cover the cost of the meal with a per-family cap to keep the costs down for larger families. Classes have been offered on everything from intense Bible study, to arts and crafts, photography, and even how to play the guitar!
50+ Games
On the second Wednesday of each month, our older adults (50 and over) gather in the Carroll Building for an afternoon of fun and games.
Feast of Goodness
Though sponsored by our church’s United Methodist Women, the Feast of Goodness each fall is a church-wide effort. On the first Tuesday in November, people from the church prepare pre-selected dishes and bring them for this fund-raiser that is open to the community. Once the food has been cooked and brought to the church, you can find church members serving food, waiting tables, washing dishes, boxing up carry-out orders, and even carrying food to our drive-through customers.
United Methodist Women
The FUMC United Methodist Women has two distinct groups that meet regularly. The Lydia Group meets at various members’ homes on a rotating basis at 9:30AM on the second Tuesday of each month. The Wesleyan/Esther Group meets in the parlor at 10:00AM also on the second Tuesday of each month. Once a quarter, the two groups come together for a General Meeting that is preceded by an Executive Meeting of UMW officers and leaders. The UMW does not meet during the summer months.
Men’s Prayer Breakfast and Bible Study
A long-running program is the Men’s Prayer Breakfast and Bible Study on Wednesday mornings at 7:00AM. Men can come and eat for $2, then enjoy Bible study and a brief time of prayer. Bible study is usually over before 8:00AM, but men are welcome to leave as needed to get to work on time. There is no men’s breakfast during the summer.
Iron Men
One of the church’s newer men’s ministries is the Iron Men. This is a Bible study group for men seeking to be better fathers, husbands, and followers of Christ. There are two different Iron Men groups-a Friday morning group that meets at 6:15AM in the Fellowship Hall, and a Thursday evenings at 6:00PM and meets at rotating locations. If you would like more information about Iron Men, contact Ron Mays.
Prayer Warriors
On Wednesday mornings at 9:00 in the Carroll Building, members meet to pray for the sick, injured, and others in need of a special touch of God’s love. If you would like to add someone to the prayer list, please contact the church secretary.
