At First Church, we TRULY believe the children are not only the future of the church, but they are also the church of today! Kids are enriched in their faith through several kid-focused ministries. Volunteers are always needed for each of these vital programs. We also seek to provide a safe haven for all of God’s children. We do our best to ensure that by requiring all adult volunteers to undergo a criminal background check and a one-hour training course called Safe Sanctuaries. If you would like to become a volunteer, contact the church office. To see all the recent posts related to children’s ministries, click here.
Sunday School (10:00AM)
Older children, 4th-6th grade learn about God through the LIVE B.I.G (Believe In God) Sunday School Curriculum.
Younger children, 4years -3rd grade, enjoy Sunday School on the Power Xpress.
Children are never too young to learn. Little eyes and ears can learn about God in their own special way in our nursery each Sunday.
Kids Praise Choir
The Kids Praise Choir meets periodically throughout the year. In most years they perform a musical program at Christmas and at Easter and sing in our 11:00 worship services. They are under the direction of Beth Leonard and Sherry Fowler.
Wednesday Happenings
Twice a year, FUMC enjoys a special time of fellowship and discipleship for everyone in the church, even the kiddos. For eight weeks in the fall and eight weeks in the spring, families come together in the Fellowship Hall for a meal at 5:15 (on Wednesday of course), then when the meal is over, kids will go to a brief choir rehearsal and then to a different class each week where they will learn about God in a new way.
Bus Stop and Tutoring Tuesdays
Tuesdays are busy days in the neighborhood surrounding the church.
Students from the nieghborhood gather at the Youth Building at 6:45 for donuts just in time to catch the bus. The first bus for older students stops just before 7:00, and the late bus for younger students stops just before 7:30. When students get off the bus, they can come back to the Youth Building where they are met by a team of volunteers. Students get a quick snack, then everyone goes to the Children’s Building for tutoring. Students work on any homework they have as well as practicing academic skills on their grade level. Students can also log into their Palestine ISD web account and train for standardized tests. George Anderson heads up this ministry and works very closely with school administration.
