Welcome to the new web home of First United Methodist Church of Palestine. The website is a little bit different from our old site, so we want you to know how you can make the best use of this new site. Below, you will find information on various aspects of the new website.
Pages: This new site still has all the same information about ongoing ministries and programs at FUMC. You can access these pages from the grey button bar at the top of the site. These are labelled “Home, Ministries, Outreach, etc.” If these pages have additional pages, you will see these by holding your pointer over the selected page and a drop-down list will appear with more pages related to that topic. For example, hold your pointer over “Ministries”, and the drop-down menu will appear with “Preschool, Children, Youth, etc.” These pages contain static information that will not change very often.
Posts: Posts are frequent updates of information in the life of the church. On the main page, the big bar at the top scrolls through featured posts. These are the most important posts the church currently has. While posts are added every day or two, the ones at the top will be relevant to the largest number of people and will stay up longer. Featured posts and non-featured posts will appear in the square boxes on the main page. These contain regularly updated content about church events and activities. Posts may be anything from a Sunday sermon, to a photo album of a church event, to a prayer list, or a church calendar. Once a post is created, it will go out to our followers on Facebook, Twitter, or our subscribers on email or blog readers.
Follow Us: With the previous site, users who wanted information about the church had to go to the website and poke around. With this site, the website can come to you. Users on Facebook or Twitter can follow us and receive FUMC post updates on their Twitter or Facebook pages simply by logging into their Twitter or Facebook accounts. Folks who do not use Twitter or Facebook can subscribe to our posts through email. When there is a new post on the site, it will automatically come to the user’s email address. People who follow blogs and have a blog reader account on a site such as Blogger or WordPress.com can receive our posts on their favorite blog reader as well. To follow us, simply click on the preferred medium in the “Follow Us” section of the left-hand sidebar and follow the links. To follow us on Twitter or Facebook, you may need to log into those services before clicking the link.
Categories: Posts may cover a wide range of topics. A post may be about Kids Praise Choir or it may be about 50+ games. Therefore, posts are divided up into categories based on their content. Categories are “adult, children, featured, general, music, photos, prayer, sermons, preschool, and youth.” By clicking on these categories in the left-hand sidebar, you will be directed to all the posts made in that category. So by clicking “music” you can see the most recent information about Glory Bells, Chancel Choir, Kids Praise Choir, Praise Team and Youth Worship Band.
Search: An easy feature of the site is the search engine. If you cannot find the information you are looking for on the front page of the site or anywhere else on the site, you can type it into the search bar. Simply type in what you are looking for and press “Enter” or click “Search” and you will be directed to all pages and posts containing the items you typed in.
