FUMC serves at Quitman UM ARMY

We had an amazing (and tiring) week serving God in Quitman, TX.  The FUMC group of seven people was part of a camp of 59 people that met to make a difference in many persons’ lives.  The four participating churches were Ashford UMC of Houston, John Wesley UMC of Houston, FUMC Huntsville, and FUMC Palestine.

By week’s end, the teams had completed 19 work sites.  The community of Quitman was very welcoming to us as this was their first time to host a UM ARMY camp.  The people of FUMC Quitman actually recently finished construction on a new Fellowship/Education building that was built for the primary purpose of hosting a UM ARMY camp.  In addition to all the work we did during the day, the evenings were filled with fun activities from a UM ARMY Olympics (David Hardin won cycling by riding a tricycle around the church parking lot, Danny Smith and Roxanne Davis medaled in fencing by poking someone with a paint-dipped foam sword, Nathan Dornbush and Jason Huffman medaled in ribbon dancing, Scott Stuart brought home the silver for Canada in basketball, Connor McCord chucked an unwrapped can of Spam in the shotput, and Larry brought home the gold in the javelin by hurling a pool noodle), a night of Crazy Bowling, a car-less drive-in movie, and a prayer journey.  We even learned how to was potatoes in a dishwasher!  Below are a few pictures taken from this week.  More pictures will be coming in soon.  Thanks to Danny Smith for taking a lot of great pictures of this week!
