UM ARMY Palestine Camp 2010 says “Thank You” to FUMC

Dear Pastor Hay,

We came away from this year’s U.M. Army camp at FUMC Palestine with a feeling of renewal, accomplishment and gratitude.  Our youth rose to the occasion and saw for themselves an example of God at work among them.  It was a pleasure to watch them grow in spirit as witness after witness told them on Clients’ Night the true meaning of their efforts.  They soon forgot about their own sacrifices, the heat and an occasional cold shower.  That, of course, is what our Camp is all about.

As a matter of interest, among our many accomplishments for the week was completion of 29 sites, including 22 wheelchair ramps totaling over 430 ft. in length.  That must be a U.M. Army record.  We also built innumerable porches, decks, stairs, and handrails.  Plus, we painted the exterior of three whole houses, and the interior of two.  What a week!  As the week was winding down we still were able to reconstruct the border of your smaller playground and paint the interior of “The Stockpot”.

We are most grateful for your leadership and for the hospitality, cooperation and assistance of Jason Huffman and Larry Lamely not to speak of the generosity of Al Lightfoot and two of your Sunday School classes.  Please extend our humble thanks for all that they were able to do for and with us.  I had heard that your church is a wonderful place in which to hold a U.M. Army camp and I certainly do believe that to be so.

Many thanks.

Sincerely,

Joel D. Sipes/Camp Director
